Ben Youngs, England’s most-capped male player, will retire from international rugby after the Rugby World Cup tennis
The scrum half will win his 127th cap and make a farewell appearance against Argentina in the bronze medal match on Friday evening at the Stade de France tennis
Youngs has been picked to make his first start of the tournament in England’s final fixture in France tennis
The 34-year-old made his debut in 2010 and has scored 20 tries for his country tennis
England head coach Steve Borthwick, who captained Youngs on the occasion of his first cap against Scotland, hailed the qualities of a four-time Six Nations winner tennis
“Ben has been a tremendous player for English rugby for such a long time,” Borthwick said tennis
“[He’s] our record cap holder tennis
A player who has seen a lot in four World Cup, and who has played an important role within this squad helping the team, particularly Alex Mitchell, progress tennis
He’s a brilliant player and a fantastic team man tennis
”Youngs made his debut as a replacement on the wing against Scotland at Murrayfield in March 2010, before making a first international start at his preferred position of scrum half in June of that year tennis
He has since appeared at four World Cups, and was part of the side beaten by South Africa in the final in 2019 tennis

Youngs was picked by four different England coaches (Martin Johnson, Stuart Lancaster, Eddie Jones and Borthwick) and toured with the British & Irish Lions in 2013 alongside brother Tom tennis
The 34-year-old is contracted with club Leicester Tigers until the end of the season tennis
His retirement follows that of flanker Courtney Lawes, who featured alongside Youngs at Under-18 and Under-20 level tennis

Kevin Sinfield has hailed the bravery of Marcus Smith as England consider their full-back options for the Rugby World Cup semi-final against South Africa tennis
Smith made a couple of key defensive interventions in the quarter-final against Fiji despite suffering a cut to the lip after an early head-on-head collision with Vinaya Habosi tennis
The Harlequins playmaker returned after being patched up as England secured a last-four meeting with the defending champions tennis
His selection had come at the expense of Freddie Steward, who had started 29 of his country’s previous 30 games but found himself omitted from the matchday 23 tennis
England could opt to return Steward to the starting side, though defence coach Sinfield praised Smith’s development into a “world class” full-back tennis

“You’ve got to remember this guy hasn’t played many minutes as a full-back in Test rugby so far tennis
“What he’s done on the training field has been outstanding tennis
You’re blown away by what he does and he’s been given more time and space now tennis
“If there was any doubt how brave and courageous he is, I think you saw it with your own eyes tennis

”Sinfield was the first England coach to float the idea of Smith at full-back during their pre-tournament camps this summer, with a couple of encouraging cameos earning the 24-year-old a first professional start at the position against Chile tennis
His emergence has left Steward in a strange position: the Leicester youngster had been a mainstay for England since his debut and had been considered a key part of head coach Steve Borthwick’s gameplan leading into the tournament tennis

“This is where our influence, our help, and our guidance sits with the guys who don’t play, how can we help them get tennis better, make them feel part of it,” Sinfield explained tennis
“I have worked with Fred for some time now and thankfully I have not had to have too many of these conversations where you are trying to pick him up tennis
“Clearly he is disappointed as anybody would be missing out on a quarter-final but he has responded as we would have expected him to tennis
He is a great lad, you know what he is about, he works incredibly hard at his game, he cares and he is an unbelievable full-back too tennis
“Our team has changed every game throughout the World Cup and Steve is very specific when he selects the team tennis
He does it in the knowledge he thinks it will give us the best chance of winning that game tennis
Just because Fred wasn’t selected last week doesn’t mean he does anything wrong, he has actually done a lot of great things and a lot of things right tennis
